Davies was born on 24 March 1980 in Manchester. She is the daughter of sports journalist and sports administrator David Davies.

She was educated from the age of five to nine at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls in Elstree, Hertfordshire, before the family moved to the Midlands, where she continued her education at King Edward VI High School for Girls in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Amanda Davies graduated from St Edmund Hall, Oxford in 2001 with a degree in Geography, where she won the Philip Geddes Memorial Prize for journalism.

Hala Gorani

Hala Basha-Gorani is a Syrian-American anchor and senior correspondent for CNN International, based in London. She anchors CNN’s Hala Gorani Tonight weeknights at 9 p.m. CET.

Gorani was one of the CNN journalists awarded a News and Documentary Emmy for the network’s coverage of the 2011 Egyptian revolution that led to the ouster of the country’s then president, Hosni Mubarak. In 2015, she covered from Paris the January Charlie Hebdo shooting and the November ISIS attacks.

Gorani also covered the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, for which CNN’s coverage was recognized with a Golden Nymph award – one of the highest honors in international journalism – at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival that year.
